Richard Widmer '86 first learned Chinese while a student at NMH, and now, after seven years of living in China, he's planning to bring contemporary Chinese art to Millers Falls, a town in Massachusetts' Franklin County. Widmer has purchased the former St. John's Church, which he will use to establish a "cultural bridgehead."

"I’ve been over there for seven years and I want to come home, and I also want to make sense of what I’ve been doing over there and have it be meaningful, so I’m trying to bring back these artists with me,” Widmer told the Greenfield Recorder. The Recorder reports that Widmer already has a pledge from the Chinese National Academy of Art to fund residencies for 10 young artists at his Millers Falls Arts Bridge.
